Okay. So here's something: why do people state the obvious?
Last night I was leaving the office. I had my coat on and my work bag slung over my shoulder messenger style. I met a guy walking toward me and he smiled and said, "on your way out?"
I puzzled; wondering if I am known for walking around the office with my coat on and my work bag slung over my shoulder messenger style on a regular basis. I mean really… who does that? I don't show up in meetings with my coat on and my work bag slung over my shoulder messenger style. I don't usually visit the restroom with my coat on with my work bag slung over my shoulder messenger style. What gives?
On the bus I yawned. The lady sitting next to me asked, "tired"?
While walking back to my desk after zapping my oatmeal a co-worker asked, "oh, is that your breakfast?"
On getting into the elevator with my coat on and my work bag slung over my shoulder messenger style, a co-worker asks, "another day, huh?"
One word for you people: "DUH!" And yet, we all do it.
Why?

I agree...icebreaker, easy conversation. It's like talking about the weather.
A few weeks ago on the way to the quarter lauch pot luck, I was carrying a crockpot full of pulled pork to the lunch room. A guy said, "Having a pot luck?" I stared at him and said, "What was your first clue?"
Good question. I do the same thing sometimes. I'm going to try not to do that any more.
Unless I'm trying to break the ice with someone. Which hardly ever happens because I'm so bad about making the effort to meet new people.
I kick myself all the time when I do it! Man! How was your day at work? : )
