I’ve always been a late bloomer

Last weekend I found myself in the banned books section of our local Half Priced Books store.  I do love to read and enjoy almost anything.  The section was decorate cutely with that black and yellow caution tape you see at construction sites.  I saw this little guy and read the back…  sounded interesting so I bought it.

I LOVED this book.  I enjoyed it so much I went on www.abebooks.com and ordered the other two in the trilogy.  Then I was so excited about it that I asked a few people at work if they’d ever read it.  “Oh sure!” one of them said, “we read that in 9th grade!”  Another friend explained that she taught the book to 8th and 9th graders years ago.  Years ago?  Jeez, it was only written in 1993!  Then I did the math.  That was 17 years ago…  I hate math.

I’d never heard of the book.  Of course, when I was in high school no one ever really did much reading.  We were too busy checking if Julie was wearing Calvin Klein jeans or if Mark had a new pair of Nikes.  Sad.  That was in 1983.

So, if you’re ever in the mood for something a little different, I highly recommend this book.  And, if you’ve already read it, do it again.

i have always loved this book! I first came across it in my school librarian years. It wasn't appropriate for the Catholic library but what a great story!
